Editing 
I did most of the editing myself. Editing the sound, added text and editing the sounds in each scene. I made sure to show how our characters were awkward between each other adding long tense non-diegetic music throughout. I included hard cuts, fading out audio to show our story driven short film
Directing 
I also directed some scenes, as Georgie was in front of the camera, I directed her where to go and what to do, in order for it to look as realistic as possible. We all directed specific scenes, I directed the second last scene, which involved a confrontation between the father and Alice.
Camerawork
When it comes to camera work it involved mainly me and Rosie shooting most of the scenes. Georgie did some scenes but not as many since she was mainly in front of the camera. For the camera work I tried hard to implement many unique shots in order to make our film interesting to watch. We used two shots, mid shorts as well as large establishing shots throughout.

CONSTRUCTION: FILM TITLE

FILM TITLE

A Film title is essential to a success of a film. A film title is what consumers see and remember the film by. Therefore, by having a unique film title it allows the film to stand out and grab the attention of consumers walking by. So we decided to make sure our film title was unique and easily recognisable. We made sure the lettering of our title was sophisticated in order to tell the consumers that the film was a complex short film involving twists and turns.

The film title tells the audience what the film is going to be about, therefore we chose for our film to have long and slender letters. This gives across to the audience a deadly sense of mystery. As older books such as Sherlock Holmes had similar lettering, allowing us to convey the same mystery that surrounds those books. We also decided to have a full stop at the end of our title, as it further emphasised the 'Silent voices', and how the full stop shows how there is nothing more going to be said. Keeping the characters silent. This ties up with the ending of our movie, as Alice ends up being sectioned by her father Gary. Showing how her voice was silenced by her own father.

War Photographer Experiences

We were able to have an insight into the life of a war photographer, as Chris Beale told us in a YouTube video what it was like. He expressed to us the struggle he saw from the Rohingya people from Myanmar and how they have to live as  refugees in Bangladesh. Chris Beale described how he spent time looking at the refugee crisis whilst it was still going on in Myanmar and Bangladesh. 

He also told us about the current situation in the two countries, and how it is still tough between the two. Chris Beale experienced this all first handed as a photographer. This is going to be extremely useful as it is able to relate to our father character, Gary. Who was a previous war photographer. Allowing us to gain a deeper insight into his life.

PTSD Effects

• I have looked at the way PTSD affects the home life as well as how it affects the individual. How it is triggered and what causes it. Helping us integrate this into our father character, Gary. 
• Post Traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events. 
• Someone with PTSD often relives the traumatic event through nightmares and flashbacks, and may experience feelings of isolation, irritability and guilt. 
• They may also have problems sleeping, such as insomnia and find concentrating difficult. These symptoms are often severe and persistent enough to have a significant impact on the persons day to day life. 
• People with PTSD have intense, disturbing thoughts and feelings related to their experience that last long after the traumatic event has ended. They may relive the events through flashbacks or nightmares; they may feel sadness, fear or anger: and they may feel detached or estranged from other people. People with PTSD may avoid situations or people that remind them of the traumatic even, and they may have strong negative reactions to something as ordinary as ordinary as a loud noise or an accidental touch.

Mother as a Nurse


We portrayed the mother job as a nurse in order to represent a caring supportive figure. However, she is not seen to take on that role, leading to a harsh contrast between the stereotypical nurse and how she is in real life. Our issue that has been presented throughout our short film is how a professional nurse spots signs of illnesses and clear dysfunctional family. This has not been portrayed throughout our short film, because of how the mother is portrayed as the mother has taken on the parental role over the nursing role. Which makes her blind to the problematic family.

The father, Gary, is a sophisticated and manipulative who is trying to evade incrimination. This is shown in how he treats the mother, and how he is challenged by the mother threatening his leadership in the household.

Mental Health in a Young Girl

Mental illness is a topical issue right now, due to factors such as social media leading to anxiety and depression. We decided to include mental health firmly into our film, by having two of our leading characters, Gary and Alice sufferer from different kinds of mental health. We used mental health as well in a way to educate young people about how stressful and harmful it can be to live with someone suffering with mental illness. Showing how they need help, and how it can tragically affect a teenage girl.

We used mise-en-scene to symbolise the difference from a regular stereotypical home compared to a shattered and harmful place we have depicted in our short film. This is able to include the house being represented as being an uncomfortable and damaging place to live in. Whereas in reality someones house is seen as a place of comfort and a savehaven. We then try and show moments where cracks start to appear throughout our film. The place where people would usually feel the safest, would be you bed. The most pivotal moment is from Alice's bed where she realises what her dad is doing. 

Another example of how we used mise-en-scene to symbolise the horror and hardship in the house would be how the photograph shows a family member missing each day. Showing how the dad is keeping secrets, with photos with the mother have been scribbled out. This shows how the father is plotting, having private plans and how he has a secret agenda. Keeping his study completely private, not allowing anyone in there. Which shows how he has complete control over the house. Showing how disastrous it is for Emily to be caught in Gary's secretive study. 

Another way in which we created tension throughout the short film was by having the father, Gary's, shadow loom over Alice. We set the lighting in this way in order to show the dominance Gary has over Alice. This creates tension between the two, as they are now the only two left in the house, which shows how shattered and distant the father and daughter relationship is. 

The penultimate scene allowed for us to show how shattered Alice is. She closes the door of her bedroom and slides down it slowly, showing how the only place she feels safe is her bedroom. She has no where else to go and does not know what to do, as when we leave her, she is crying at the bottom her her bedroom door.

Film Website

Here is a link to my film website, which has links to our social medias as well as having all of our film clips. This has our two hot-seating's for Gary and for Alice and Emily. The website also has our final short film on their as well. There are short paragraphs for each of the characters which give more backstory to them. 

On the website we also have a gallery section, which involves many behind the scenes shots of us making the short film. It shows the different camera angles we used as well as showing how we lit many of the scenes. 

There is a section which has photos from our Instagram account which shows similar pictures to our gallery, but with captions on where it is whilst giving context to the pictures. 

There is a section which has information about the actors and actresses. Each person has their own paragraph which gives their acting history as well as saying what other unique skills they bring to the short film.

I have been able to use what i discovered after researching postcards to help me make my actual postcard. I was able to look at the codes and conventions of film postcards and apply it to my own.

This includes using traditional conventions from a postcard such as the tagline, and reviews. As well as having three postcards that advertise their upcoming short film. 

From what i found i was able to use many of the useful things that other postcards also use. These include having a universal house theme, a tagline, and linking their social medias.
